Once I got home with the baby I realized that there were some baby items that made my life a lot easier. Some of the items I had on hand and others I had to make a run to the store for. I thought it might be handy to share my favorites so that all my new mom friends will be more prepared than I was when their little one arrives.
Disclaimer: I only have just over a month experience at this parenthood thing!! 😉 (but I really do think these are MUST HAVE items)
There are a ton of different swaddle blanket options out there but these are by far my favorite. They are on the thinner side (which is nice if you have your baby in the spring or summer) and the velcro on them helps you get a better swaddle than just a blanket. They look super comfy and Evi really calmed down once he was in them. They come in a 3 pack with cute designs 🙂 I ended up ordering more of them because I loved them so much.
The breastfeeding tanks are perfect for when you are at home (easy access) but also nice when you are out in public. It took me a minute to get used to feeding publicly and these tanks help keep you a little more covered, which frees your hands so you can help the baby get a better a latch.
The waterproof changing table covers are amazing. They cover a larger area of the changing pad (and lay over top of the cloth changing pad cover). I ended up buying two more packs of these too because we were going through them so quickly. Babies pee and poop a lot and they don’t care if you are in the middle of changing their diaper, so it’s nice to have these pads to make the cleanup super easy 😉
I was lucky enough to have my mom in town after the baby was born and she LOADED up our freezer with frozen meals. Trust me- you will have ZERO time to cook and prepare meals the first few weeks you have the baby. It’s really important that you eat too so having a fully stocked freezer will make your life a million times easier. I linked to a blog that had a few frozen meal recipes but there are a lot of different options out there. It’s not a bad idea to prepare some meals before the baby arrives- I wish I did this but luckily my mama saved us!
I had a hands free pumping bra on my registry but it wasn’t the adjustable kind. Your boobs are going to get bigger (and if you are like me your whole body will get bigger during the pregnancy). The adjustable bra is nice because you can change it to fit as your body changes- perfect right?!
The last item on my favorite list is a battery operated night light. I bought these after the baby arrived too. In the beginning the baby is still learning how to latch when you feed them. So in the middle of night when you are trying to feed it’s nice to have a light close by that you can turn on to see so you can help your little one out (I kept one on both my night stand and my husbands). It’s also nice to be able to turn it off once the baby falls asleep so you can get some shuteye too! Wall night lights work just fine too but then they are always on, and for me it’s harder to sleep that way.
To be completely honest, there really isn’t a whole lot that you absolutely NEED when you have a newborn. There’s a lot of products out there that are nice to have, but not a necessity. I’m happy to help all you new moms out there if you ever have a question-hope you enjoyed this post!
